Order and Chaos (Compass Card)

SKU: 402

Escher returned to the concept of Order and Chaos for his final attempt to depict that even something as chaotic as a scatter of stones is highly organized on the molecular level.  This work is also called "Compass Rose".  The points of the crystal are close, but not quite, similar to the ornate depiction of the compass on nautical maps.   Escher snuck in a bit of illusion: the front center star is not three-dimensional, can you see why?

This work was printed as a commission for a Masonic chapter in Holland.  It was not signed.

This work is in excellent condition and it is available.
