MC Escher Original Artwork

Escher’s body of work consists of 448 woodcuts, wood engravings, lithographs, mezzotints, and linocuts. Woodcuts are images carved into sidegrain wood, whereas wood engravings are cut into endgrain wood. The endgrain allows for greater detail. The carved wood is then inked and paper is pressed onto the inked surface thereby transferring the image to the paper. Learn more about his TECHNIQUES here.
The following pages contain Escher’s works in chronological order. Works can be clicked on to open another page with more detail. If you are looking for Escher's unique symmetry WATERCOLORS, look HERE.
Most of Escher's first 67 works were linocuts (linoleum blocks) and do not show up very often. If you have one, please contact me, I would love to add it to my collection!
