Saint Francis was the first work that Escher created and sold once he decided he was going to start a career as a graphic artist. The quirky birds are a tribute to his mentor and teacher, Samuel Jessurun De Mesquita.
This work is pencil signed by Escher and in the top right numbered "No. 1" by Escher. This is an incredible opportunity to own the start of Escher's history as an artist!
