This is one of Escher's early works featuring significant artistic license as the bridge was not actually there! During this period of Escher's work, many of his Italian city- and landscapes were faithful reproductions of reality, however, Escher changed the perspective and added a bridge from the cramped city to the Natural World. This rare work is also one of Escher's largest lithographs.
